Paulo keeps the faith
Hearts boss Paulo Sergio today revealed he will continue with Jamie MacDonald as his first choice goalkeeper with Marian Kello having made it clear he intends to leave Hearts in the summer.
The Slovakian, who turned down the chance of a lucrative move to Austria Vienna on the last day of the transfer window, missed out against St Johnstone in the William Hill Scottish Cup tie on Sunday and is set to remain sidelined as the club keeps faith with Jamie and Mark Ridgers, both keepers having recently signed two-year contract extentions.
Speaking to the media at today's pre-match press conference at Riccarton ahead of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League showdown with Celtic tomorrow evening, the manager said: "On Sunday I said there was an issue. And that issue is clear. The future of Kello is not going to be at Hearts. That was made clear between him and the board in the last week or two.
"If his future is not linked to our club I think it is fair enough to put the others to play because the future is going to be with them.
"This protects the club and the player because imagine if Kello makes a big mistake when everybody knows he is going to move, it is not going to be good for him.
"I think it is the moment to put the others in and give them confidence as the future is with them."
Marian turned down the offer of an improved contract from Hearts in December, and there has has been media speculation linking him with a number of clubs both in Scotland and England.
On HeartsTV today, Paulo meets the press ahead of Celtic visit, plus John Sutton speaks about his move Down Under.
