Gemma Piaskowski was the hat-trick hero for Hearts Women as they booked their place in the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup with a thrilling 6-3 extra-time victory over Dee Vale Ladies at Corbie Park.

The visitors went in front in Maryculter with just four minutes on the clock when Piaskowski was first to react after a Wilkins shot came cashing back off the underside of the bar.

Dee Vale levelled things but Hearts restored their advantage as the interval approached, Borthwick side-stepping a challenge to rifle home a 25-yarder beat the keeper low to her right.

The Maroons stretched their lead on the hour mark when Piaskowski was on the mark again. With a two-goal advantage the visitors may have thought they had done enough but the home side had other ideas and within 10 minutes had reduced the deficit when a cross from the right found its way to the back post and was knocked into the net from close range.

Hearts were under extreme pressure in the closing moments of the match and just when they thought they had held out, Dee Vale drew level in the final minute when a miss-hit shot trickled over the line despite the best efforts of Campbell to keep it out.

The first period of extra-time saw the Maroons with the wind at their backs and eight minutes later they once again went ahead and again it was Piaskowski who got on the end of a great cross from Anderson to beat the keeper from four yards.

After the turnaround, Hearts' fitness showed and the tiring home side conceded two further goals. The first came from a close-in shot from Rogers after a mix-up in the box and the final goal arrived from a great back post run from Anderson, who fired home after good work down the left from Buchanan.

Hearts Coach Tam Milne said: "I am obviously delighted with the result and the fact that we scored six goals but I was very disappointed with the quality of our play and thought that individual errors led to all three goals we conceded.

"I thought our opponents played well and they worked very hard and I give them great credit for making it a contest until they started to tire near the end. The girls showed a great work rate and character."
