Experiments continue at Gillingham
Jim Jefferies is likely to continue experimenting with the team in tomorrow night's friendly against Gillingham.
The Tynecastle boss is using the game at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium, as he did at Dunfermline yesterday, to assess his options.
In fielding trialists Adrian Mrowiec and Kari Arkivuo, and utilising Darren Barr at centre-half (he's played right-back for Falkirk for the last year) and Ryan McGowan at right-back (he's a natural centre-half or holding midfielder), the manager used the East End Park clash to review some of his squad options for the season ahead.
With Eggert Jonsson, Ismael Bouzid and Ryan Stevenson suspended for the opening game of the campaign against St Johnstone they are likely to play against the Gills but not at Millwall on Saturday.
Only at the New Den will JJ start to put together the sort of team he would expect to field come the start of the season.
"I had a look at things against Dunfermline - that was the purpose," Jim said.
"I know the supporters are looking for the result but this was more for me to see these two boys. I knew I wanted to see one or two others.
"What I am doing at Gillingham is that the boys who will miss the start of the season will play and then not at Millwall.
"Looking at the Millwall, Wolves and Blackburn games we'll be looking to shape the team. We'll know by then who is capable of doing what we want."
Jim also confirmed that he's continuing to look for a striker and attacking midfielder, but he confessed it's not an easy market place.
"I am always hoping," he said, "whether it is the end of the week or before the transfer deadline but I will try to get them in.
"We've got an enquiry for another player that we're looking at to see if anything can be done there."
