There was nothing between the teams in the opening half but it was Hearts who took the lead thansk to a slice of good fortune. A tremendous diagonal ball from Borthwick out to the right flank found Kidd and after beating the full-back she delivered a fantastic cross that hit a defender and crashed into the net. Although technically an own goal, the quality of the cross saw the Hearts players run to Kidd in celebration.

Killie put three up front and and on the hour mark levelled the tie with an excellent finish past Porteous.

That setback spurred Hearts back into action and they clinched victory with a superb strike from Borthwick. Awarded a free-kcik some 30 yards from goal, the Jambos ace stepped up to send an unstoppable shot into the back of the Killie net.

Head Coach Tam Milne said: "I am so proud of the girls today they all worked so hard which must have been difficult on such a hot day, I asked them before the match to play the game at a high tempo and that is exactly what they did. We had no failures but I will single out Shona (McGovern) for her tireless performance up front, she has not been a regular starter recently but her performance today has sent out the right message and I am delighted for her.

"Beating a Premier League side should give the girls the confidence to kick on and start picking up league points as we are a far better side than our league position shows but basic errors have seen us dropping too many points if we correct that, as we did today, then we will be fine".
Hearts: Porteous, Gill, Paterson, Campbell, Honjigawa, Kidd, Rogers, Borthwick, Buchanan, Piaskowski (Wilkins), McGovern (Lech).
