Narrow defeat for Hearts Women
SWF First Division: Raith Rovers 1-0 Hearts
From Hearts News in Kirkcaldy
Hearts went down to the narrowest of defeats in Sunday's SWF First Division clash in Kirkcaldy on Sunday.
The early stages of the first half saw Hearts create a couple of half-chances with balls being played into the channels and Rogers getting away from her defensive markers but the eager striker was too quick to get her shot away
The home side were dangerous with their counter attacks and their mobile striker was finding space in behind the Hearts defence - indeed it was from one of these moves that they opened the scoring midway through the half. A ball was played from central midfield out to the right wing and the Raith striker, in acres of space, delivered a cross to the back post for her strike partner to head into the net.
Hearts were working hard to draw level before the break but apart from a couple of decent deliveries into the box from Campbell, most of their forward moves broke down in the final third and that left them trailing at half-time.
The women in maroon started the second period very brightly and for the first time in the match they were getting in behind the home sides rear-guard but still no real chances were being created. Despite dominating play, resolute Raith defending saw them hold out for the three points.
After the match head coach Tam Milne said: "Like last week, against Buchan, that was very frustrating, we should be picking up maximum points from matches that find us having the majority of possession.
"Our final ball in the last third lacked quality today and due to that we created very few scoring opportunities.
"One point out of six from our last two matches is very disappointing, especially when in both matches we were, in my opinion, the better side.
"It is early in the season, though, and as long as we don't start to panic, we can get back on track again, hopefully starting next week against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup."
Hearts: Porteous, Scobie (Rae), Gill, Johnston, Campbell, Anderson, Borthwick, Paterson, Buchanan (Elliot), Rogers, Piaskowski. Subs not used: McGovern, Milby (GK).
Hearts U15s had no fixture this week but the U13s won 3-1 away to Boroughmuir and the U17s secured a 2-0 victory at Cowdenbeath.
