Glory & Dismay 2009
The Heart of Midlothian Education and Community Trust has teamed up with city neighbours Spartans to host a special adult literacy programme called Glory & Dismay - The Story of Scottish Football.
The course which starts this Tuesday the 3rd February is for anybody aged 16 years and over and offers an opportunity for participants to share and discuss their views and stories on not only Hearts but Scottish football in general.
The programme leaders will provide footage, images, and laptops to provide content and information to make the experience as interactive and interesting as possible. There will be 5-a-sides from 6.00-6.50pm weekly for those who wish to opt in with the main sessions running from 7.00-9.00pm with guest speakers also in attendance, plus free tea and coffee each week!
Past programmes have been held at Tynecastle and have proved extremely popular with over 30 adult learners in attendance each week and we are delighted that Spartans are able to provide facilities at their brand new state of the art academy based at 94 Pilton Drive, Edinburgh (next to Ainslie Park Leisure Centre).
Why not drop in any Tuesday to take part or for more information contact Hazel, John or Colin on 0131 221 5800 or email john.player@ea.edin.sch.gov.uk
Hearts community development manager Alan White commented, "Building on the success of the Glory & Dismay sessions currently being delivered at Tynecastle Stadium, we are grateful to Spartans for accommodating a positive extension to this programme in north Edinburgh.
"The programme is not only a learning opportunity for adults but also a fantastic social experience and a place to meet new friends with similar interests and memories. It is important to note that this course is open to adult learners of all abilities, whether experienced or otherwise, the staff are their to lend their full support."
The course runs until the 21 April 2009 and is funded by the HBOS Foundation.
